Facebook Bluetooth Beacon Unboxing
Since about June of this year, Facebook has been notifying select page managers that they've qualified to receive a Facebook Bluetooth Beacon. This new product is currently being offered for free to select local businesses that are getting a good number of check-ins via their Facebook pages.
Today, I received a beacon for our client, Kuma Buffet, in Torrance, CA. I haven't set it up yet, but I thought it'd be fun to do an unboxing video. Watch it below. If you'd like to find out if your local business qualifies for this free product, you can request a beacon from Facebook.
This Bluetooth beacon appears to be very simple to set up. There's really nothing that needs to be configured. You simply remove it from the packaging, peel of the label on the adhesive back, and stick it at a central location within the business.
What Does It Do?
When customers with Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and the Facebook app enter the business, the beacon prompts them to check in and Like the business's Facebook page. Also, they will see Place Tips for the business. According to Facebook, "They'll see information that's relevant to their visit like popular menu items, photos from their friends, reviews and more." Additionally, there is a Welcome message that can be edited. Read more about this and other options.
This is the first time I'd received a hardware product from Facebook, so you can imagine I'm quite eager to try it out. And I'm sure my client will be curious to see how it works. Have you received a Facebook Bluetooth Beacon for your or your client's business? How is it working out for you? Let me know in the comments.
